Writing Flag Faculty Retreat
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 30 and May 1, 2024, IN PERSON, 9:00 am – Noon, both days, Independent work sessions will take place remotely both afternoons
Faculty who are teaching, or preparing to teach, Writing Flag courses are invited to participate in a two-day Undergraduate College workshop, April 30th and May 1st, 2024.
Retreat participants will revise currently taught Writing Flag classes or develop new ones, creating syllabi, assignments, and feedback strategies that foster student writing skills. Methods covered will include peer review, minimal marking, and rubric design. This year, we will meet in-person both mornings, with independent/remote work sessions each afternoon. Morning sessions will consist of presentation, discussion, and group activities. Independent work sessions will focus on course materials development. The Writing Coordinator will be available on campus and via Zoom during the afternoon sessions.
Participants will receive $1,000 in the form of professional development funds.
Participation is limited to ten faculty members, who must commit to attending both days._

Ethics Flag Faculty Retreat
Wednesday and Thursday, May 15 and May 16, 2024, online morning sessions, independent afternoon sessions
Faculty who are teaching, or preparing to teach, Ethics Flag courses, or who are seriously interested in adding an Ethics Flag to an existing course, are invited to participate in a virtual two-day Undergraduate College workshop on May 15-16, 2024.
Retreat participants will revise currently taught Ethics Flag courses or develop new ones. Our retreat is designed for instructors who are not experts in ethics or ethics teaching, and will give you the tools needed to teach an Ethics-flagged course in your own area of expertise. As a retreat participant, we will guide you as you:
- identify the ethical questions inherent in your course
- choose appropriate ethical decision-making frameworks
- design scaffolded assignments that support the ethical reasoning process
- plan productive learning opportunities for ethics discussions
Participants will meet via Zoom over two days, with each day consisting of online morning sessions (presentations, discussion, and group activities) and independent work sessions to be completed in the afternoon. The Ethics Flag Coordinator will be available in the afternoons for individual consultations, questions, and follow-up.
Participants will receive $1000 in the form of professional development funds. Participation is limited to twelve faculty members, who must commit to attending both days.

Independent Inquiry Flag Faculty Retreat– Structuring the Semester for Student Success
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14th and 15th, 2024, 9am – 12pm via Zoom, plus independent work sessions/consultation in the afternoons
Participants will: :
- Enhance their understanding of how to identify, scaffold, and assess assignments that support the independent inquiry process.
- Learn from, and foster relationships with, colleagues from other disciplines.
- Build skills and confidence in student-centered approaches to teaching and assessment.
