The Connecting Experience will give you hands-on practice applying the skills and knowledge gained in your BDP classes, a context within which to enhance your understanding of your interdisciplinary BDP topic, and the opportunity to reflect on your interests, strengths, and goals for the future.
Connecting Experiences can take several forms:
- an undergraduate research experience, which might be a research assistantship or an independent research project
- an internship experience with a non-profit organization, government agency, or business
- a creative project designed to contribute to a digital art/media portfolio (for Digital Arts and Media students only)
For all Connecting Experiences, make sure to start planning 4-6 months before the proposal is due so that you can meet deadlines. Keep in touch with your BDP advisor as you develop your plans.
Make sure to complete your Connecting Experience proposal and all Study Abroad paperwork (if applicable) by the following dates:
Location of Experience | Fall Deadline | Spring Deadline | Summer Deadline |
---|---|---|---|
US | On the 2nd class day | On the 2nd class day | On last day of spring finals |
Abroad | August 1 | November 1 | April 1 |
Study Abroad
Many BDP students do a Connecting Experience while studying abroad. If you are going abroad and want to do a research project or internship, plan early with BDP and the Study Abroad Office.
Study Abroad developed a chart (PDF) to help you navigate what steps you need to take before and during a Connecting Experience abroad.
