First-Year Interest Group (FIG) mentors and Transfer-Year Interest Group (TrIG) mentors should find their respective section below to learn about their program’s required meetings, duties, seminar topics, and documents.
FIG Program Requirements
Required Meetings
- August Update Meeting – TBD. Meeting location and details will be emailed.
- FIG Mentor Marketplace Event – TBD. Event details will be emailed.
- Mid-Semester Meeting – Mid-October, dates and times TBD.
Mentor Requirements and Duties
- One-on-one meetings with students.
- 15-20 outside hours.
- Regular meeting with a facilitator.
- Attend/host every seminar (do not cancel).
- Plan and prepare for every seminar.
- Keep weekly attendance during FIG seminar (check-in with students who do not attend).
- Keep track of hours worked by filling out and submitting timesheets weekly.
- On-going check-ins and trainings between the FIG office and mentors will be hosted over the course of the fall semester. Days/times are TBD.

TrIG Program Requirements
Required Meetings
- August Update Meeting, TBD.
- Mid-Semester Meeting – Mid-October, dates and times TBD, one-on-one with a mentor and a TYE staff member.
- Training workshops – hosted via Zoom over the course of the fall semester. Days/times are TBD and will vary to accommodate mentor schedules.
- TYE anticipates hosting these meetings every other week during the fall 2022 semester.
- Though attendance is encouraged for each, mentors are required to attend at least three trainings.
Mentor Requirements and Duties
- One-on-one meetings with students.
- Mentors must offer online options for their students.
- Can be done in-person but should follow the UT Austin’s health and safety guidance.
- Allow time in the seminar for students to take five- to seven-minute surveys at the beginning (usually ~ Week 3) and end of the semester (~last two weeks).
- Regular meeting with facilitator.
- Attend/host every seminar (do not cancel).
- Plan and prepare for every seminar.
- Keep weekly attendance during TrIG seminar (check-in with students who do not attend).
- Keep track of hours worked by filling out and submitting weekly timesheets on Workday prior to timesheet deadlines.
- Monthly mentor feedback surveys.
